What makes alpha kappa alpha different from other sororities
MY chapter was instrumental in the founding of your sorority as Kappa Chapter was chartered in at Butler University. Knowledge is Power. SGHRO: glad to hear that your sorority was founded on a predominately white campus. WHat was your point of mentioning that. Act like one. I am seeking membership with the Deltas and I truly appreciate your response because there is no need to be negative.
Way to go future sorer. Just a little helpful advice. You did the same thing you are chastising others of doing. All are good and have a purpose. Sis ur responds has made it clear the route I want to go.
I was torn and looking at something other then the shear essence of an organization…. Thank you for prayer answered and shinning above the rest. I came on this page seeking information about which sorority might be a better fit for me. They all seem like gangs to me. All speak about scholarship and community service but just keep to themselves and exclude others. Why are African Americans wanting to be attached to an organization with a Greek name?.
Just because the Anglos adapted the Greek names for their groups, we wanted to follow suit, generation after generation. I think women with low-self esteem have to belong to these sick and twisted organizations and haze and torture others to feel powerful and important.
The dues have to go to pay for the hazing lawsuits that these Sororities and Fraternities have to pay. Nasty, hateful, mean, petty, pretentious, uppity, narcissistic, vain, bitchy, spiteful, judgmental, materialistic … the list goes on ad infinitum, dear Ladies of AKA and DST.
You do it because the name carries weight and prestige. Today I was talking to my daughter, who is only We had a discussion about college and sorties, I decided to come on here to show her what are the difference between the two. I teach them to respect themselves and others, have manners ,work hard, and most importantly put God first.
If somebody can explain to me more details about each sorority without anybody being disrespectful to one another that would be great. People are people. We are all imperfect.
Just consider being your best you in any organization you consider being apart of. Good Luck! However being a member of a cult could be seen as ridiculous until u look the definition up.
The rivalry beyween Delta and AKA us actually fun and healthy. Usually these two groups are friendly with a great friendship among tgeo members. They majorly focus on the black community.
Alpha kappa alpha also signifies as AKA. It was the first historically African-American Greek-lettered sorority. It broke the barriers for Africa- American women in the arena where they had little or no power and they were not provided with many opportunities as they belonged to the minority women category during the early 20 th -century. Alpha kappa alpha, since establishment has helped in improving the social and economic conditions of the community.
The members have improved education through independent initiative and contributing to the community by building up and creating programs and associations. X worked with communities service initiative and progressive program linked with education, family, health, and business. It has more than 1. The aspirants might either sign up through college or university chapters, or they can also sign up via graduation chapter after graduating from the college. It is an African American Greek-lettered sorority.
I want to be the best. I want to lead. I want to set the standard for myself and others. Once I recognized the amazing history of this organization and what the legacy was that they were striving towards….
I love my AKA. Her love for AKA was something I sought to know about. I wanted to know what about AKA made her work so hard and love so deeply? She instilled that love and work ethic in me and the rest was history. AKA is the only way. I was with my mom when they served single moms at our community center, people without homes at shop kitchens, and underserved children at local schools.
Seeing my mother and bonus aunties, now my Sorors, consistently serving the community and suporting one another as friends made me want to become a woman of substance, a woman of pride. I almost gave up. Fortunately I returned to college with intent.
I almost missed the informational. Only God could have turned me toward a bulletin board in the corner of our student center right before spring break. I think I may have been about 7 or 8 when I first took notice to it. I remember researching all of the great contributions that AKA had made; and realizing how great the sisterhood was. I was able to serve as president as well.
Alpha Kappa Alpha women are inviting, kind and gorgeous both inside and out. Becoming a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha is becoming selfless and wanting something more for both yourself and others. I knew that I wanted to be a part of something so much larger with other women who continue to build you up as an individual each and every day.
Having no idea what she was talking about and now knowing how shallow of a comment that was I was intrigued to find out who these groups of women were. As I start to learned more i realized they were all around me. Now as you learn about one sorority you start to hear about the others. But by then my heart was full. I always thought she had so much poise and dignity.
I stuck with that until I had the chance and the rest is history! And the chapter hosted great events not just parties. The members seemed well rounded and were friendly. One of my prophytes who is now an inventor was a Senior and pre-med major like myself. She was smart, friendly, fly always helpful. The more I learned the more I felt I belonged in this Sorority. Alpha Kappa Alpha still speaks to my heart.
I always knew that I wanted to be part of a sorority that would define who I was as a person, and what embraces the true meaning of sisterhood, scholarship and service. Our founders stood for many things. More importantly they stood for courage, rights, and equality and many others. Why pledge anything else when the first prestigious and most gracious sorority have paved the way for many others. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
Has taught me a lot over the years and it continues to teach me until this day. The day I finally got my pearls was the day that I knew I was being reborn to be a better person, woman, sister, and lady of sophistication and confidence.
AKA challenges me to become the best version of myself and serve a bigger purpose. When I got to college I saw this group of confident, graceful and self assured women who were truly passionate about service and I knew that possessed all the characteristics of the type of woman I wanted to be.
I am an only child so if I was going to gain sisters they had to be women of immense substance.
