In simple terms it is a seasoned buttermilk Moru curry mildly flavored. You will always get a moru buttermilk curry with a traditional kerela thali across all restaurants. My recent kerela vacation made me an enlightened soul as far as the culinary history of kerala cusine and its flavors.

Beautifuly delicious and simplicity as its base, this cuisine is distinctive in its burst of flavors with coconut as its forerunner. Puttu, moru curry ,appam, fish curry,fish moilee meen moilee are some of the must haves if you ever visit kerela. Simplistic in treatment, it is only fair to term coconut as the hero in every dish perhaps lending a tribute and respect to this land of coconut trees.

Not too much of complicated cooking nor myriad blend of spices, they are easy to cook and gives out a familiar intoxicating aroma of the spices. I dont remember relishing any meal without a bowl of moru,. All thalis will ensure you get the best of moru.

Moru curry can be of two types. Served as, Sambhram, a thin watered down buttermilk with spices, it is very beneficial to reduce dehydration in the hot summer days. Check link — Spiced buttermilk. In monsoon season, the buttermilk curry is gently simmered with ginger, black pepper and turmeric. These additions to the buttermilk curry serve as a frontline defence to the gut lining and throat against the germs circulating in these seasons. Inviting definitely. The curry looks so perfect. I just need this curry, rice and pickle. I would happily finish my lunch. I liked the touch of coconut oil in this recipe. This looks so delicious flavourful and comforting.. Something like chhach but differently made. I will try it soon. Thanks for the recipe. Such a flavorful and comforting meal. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who lost lives, homes and means of living in Kerala. Its true that even wishing friends happy Onam is not right as so many will not be able to celebrate this famous festival. The simple tempered buttermilk looks like comfort food. Simple and healthy dish yet tastes delicious.

I have never tried with coconut oil, will save it to try soon. Great share. My prayers for those who are suffering and wishing them a normal life again. Later I realized that it has no thickening agent like besan. This must be quite light and comforting. Love butter milk curry anyday but this version with coconut oil in Kerala style have never tried have to try soon. Comfort food! Will love to have this everyday!
