What aids are there for blind people

As they say, prevention is better than cure. Clutter in your home is not recommended in any case, more so when you live there as a vision impaired person. One thing is for sure, with continued technological progression, life is going to be even better for people with special needs.

More and more processes, methods, tools and techniques will continue improving the quality of people suffering from vision impairment, some of which have been discussed in this write-up. Though all of these low vision devices are designed to cater to the special needs of vision impaired and legally blind people, all of these differ in one way or the other.

These amplify sound, featuring large buttons and one-press picture buttons of key contacts to help those with sight or hearing loss, dementia or dexterity issues. These stickers have raised surfaces that can be stuck on household appliances - for example at the 40C cycle on a washing machine, so you know where to turn the dial.

These let you turn sockets on or off without bending. This training can help you develop a range of skills that will assist you to move around more easily and safely. Guide Dogs are an important mobility aid to people with sight loss but can also provide support and social benefits. Irish Guide Dogs offer a three-week residential training course which trains the person and their guide dog to work together and deal with specific situations such as crossing the road.
