How do you get hlta status
Before making a decision of whether HLTA is right for you please read through the Why HLTA document listing some benefits to both the candidate as an individual and to the school.
Please refer to our Level 2 document outlining some of the qualifications we are able to accept. The process of HLTA follows 9 clearly set out steps Step by Step and is made up of two main elements, online preparation and remote school assessment.

In the unlikely event that a candidate is unhappy about the final outcome of their assessment, there is an appeals process that is clearly followed. The assessment will take place via a video conferencing facility such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype.
Full details will be provided as part of the preparation programme. Our preparation for assessment typically takes place over a 6 week period. Between the two preparation days typically 6 weeks apart you will need to spend approximately one to two days drafting your assessment tasks, collecting evidence for your folder, reading through the support documentation provided and completing an online unit of support.
The preparation days prepare you on how to approach the eight required written tasks, the portfolio of documentary evidence and the assessment interview.
Please note: In all tasks, you must use examples of your employed work with children aged three or above. Work carried out as a volunteer is not admissible as evidence towards HLTA. Applicants should download this form and ask their headteacher to complete the headteacher declaration form. The signed headteacher declaration must be uploaded as part of your online application. We are now accepting applications for our Autumn term groups.

Your assessor will contact you to arrange an assessment appointment and approximately weeks after day 2, you will email your final written tasks to the assessor and upload your evidence to a secure e-portfolio ready for your assessment.
It is also up to headteachers to approach relevant training providers and organise assessment. While this qualification has been designed specifically for HLTAs, it is important to note that it is not a requirement for HLTA recognition in schools.
It will however, provide successful learners with a nationally-recognised level 4 qualification. Some higher level teaching assistants go on to train as teachers. As an experienced teaching assistant, you may be able to study for a foundation degree to get started. Have a look at the teaching assistant role profiles under the teaching and learning support job family to find out more about the different levels you could work at.
